About the service

Salabókun is operated by Salabókun ehf., registered at Hlíðasmári 8, 201 Kópavogur.

Salabókun is a marketplace where hosts list venues for hire and guests send booking requests and pay by card on the platform.

Salabókun is an intermediary connecting guests and hosts. The rental agreement for the venue is between the guest and the host; Salabókun is not a party to it.

You must be of legal age and authorised to use the service in order to create an account.

2

Accounts

To send a booking request or list a venue you create an account with an email address. Sign-in relies on a verified email.

Hosts provide a kennitala, and guests do on their first booking. The kennitala is encrypted at rest, never written to system logs, and sent only to the payment and identity provider for verification.

You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure and for all activity under your account.

3

Bookings

A booking starts as a request. You choose a venue, a date and a block (morning, afternoon, evening or full day) and send a request to the host.

A booking becomes active when the host accepts the request. The host has a limited time to respond; an unanswered request expires.

If the host declines a request or it expires, no payment is taken.

Salabókun reserves the right to refuse or annul a booking if fraud or misuse is suspected, if payment fails, if an obvious error has occurred in the price, date or other details, or if the booking violates the law or these terms.

By booking, the guest also accepts the rules and conditions the host has published for the venue, provided they comply with the law and these terms.

4

Payments

When you send a booking request, the payment is authorised on your card with the payment provider, but not taken straight away.

The payment is captured only when the host accepts the booking. If a request is declined or expires, the authorisation is released and no amount is charged.

All prices are in Icelandic króna (ISK). Prices are shown and paid in whole króna.

Card details never pass through Salabókun's servers; they are handled by a PCI-certified payment provider.

Salabókun receives the payment on the host's behalf and holds it until the rental has ended or the matter has been settled under the platform's rules. A payment does not become the host's property until Salabókun has completed the payout.

Salabókun may defer a payout if a dispute, a refund claim, suspected fraud, a payment-processor investigation or other circumstances warranting further review arise.

If a payment is reversed by the payment processor or card company after a payout has been made, Salabókun may reclaim the amount from the host or set it off against future payouts.

5

Cancellations and refunds

One universal Salabókun cancellation policy applies to every booking, as shown at the time of booking: a full refund minus the booking fee (10%, minimum ISK 2,000) when cancelling more than 30 days before the event, a 50% refund 11 to 30 days before, and no refund when cancelling 10 or fewer days before the event.

A host may cancel an accepted booking in exceptional cases; such a cancellation results in a full refund to the guest.

Refunds are made to the original payment method, through the payment provider.

6

Guest duties

Guests are responsible for providing accurate details when booking, following the host's rules, taking care of the premises and equipment, complying with the law, and ensuring their guests do the same.

Guests are liable for all damage that they or their guests cause to the venue, its equipment or other property during the rental.

7

Host duties

Hosts are responsible for keeping the venue's description, photos, prices and facilities accurate and up to date.

Hosts keep their calendar accurate. An optional two-way sync with Google Calendar is available per listing.

In addition to these terms, separate host rules describe hosts' duties for listing and operating venues.

Hosts are responsible for having the authority to let the venue, for holding the required permits, for carrying appropriate insurance, and for the venue complying with the laws and regulations that apply to its operation.

Hosts are solely responsible for taxes, VAT and other public levies on income earned through Salabókun.

8

Disputes

If a dispute arises between a guest and a host, Salabókun may defer the payout until sufficient information is available.

Salabókun may request photos, videos, correspondence or other material needed to assess the matter. Electronic records, messages and payment data created in Salabókun's systems may, to the extent permitted by law, be relied on when resolving a dispute.

Salabókun aims to help the parties resolve disputes but is not an arbitrator and does not take a final position on private-law disputes between a guest and a host.

9

Liability

The service is provided as is. Salabókun does not warrant the condition, safety or legality of venues that hosts list.

Disputes about the rental itself are between the guest and the host. Messages between the parties are retained as evidence in case of a dispute.

To the extent permitted by law, Salabókun's liability is limited to the service-fee amount associated with the relevant booking.

Within the same limits, Salabókun is not liable for the conduct of events, the condition or quality of venues, the accuracy of information users publish, the conduct of guests or hosts, accidents or damage to people or property, loss of income or profit, indirect or consequential loss, or technical failures, network outages or third-party services.

Salabókun does not guarantee that a venue will be booked, nor that a host will receive any particular number of bookings or level of income from using the service.

Salabókun is not liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond its reasonable control, such as natural disasters, volcanic eruptions, epidemics, strikes, cyberattacks, power outages or decisions of public authorities.

10

Misuse and off-platform dealings

Salabókun may limit or close a user's account on justified grounds, such as suspected fraud, misuse, violations of the law or these terms, security concerns, or where necessary to protect the platform or other users.

Salabókun may also remove venues, listings or other content that violates the law, these terms or the service's policies.

Salabókun accepts no responsibility for agreements, changes or payments that a guest and a host make between themselves outside the platform.

11

Intellectual property

All content on Salabókun, including trademarks, design, text, images and software that Salabókun owns or is licensed to use, is protected by intellectual-property law.

12

Governing law and changes

These terms are governed by Icelandic law and disputes fall under the jurisdiction of the Icelandic courts.

Salabókun may update these terms. Material changes will be announced before they take effect.

Changes take effect on publication on the website and do not affect already-confirmed bookings unless the law or the nature of the change requires otherwise.

If any provision of these terms proves invalid or unenforceable, this does not affect the validity of the remaining provisions.
